The answer to that question is fairly obvious ... the beach! It is the primary draw for visitors and residents alike.
But it offers so much more, especially since Gulf Shores actually begins north of the Intracoastal Waterway. There are all the services you expect in a tourism-oriented city -- golf courses, amusement parks, miniture golf and loads of shopping and restaurant choices. There's also the Alabama Gulf State Park, the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, Jack Edwards National Airport (for private planes), the Gulf Shores campus of Coastal Alabama Community College, and the South Baldwin Community Theatre. Annual festivals include the National Shrimp Festival (October), Hangout Fest (May), and Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday).
But it's not just a vacation destination. It's a great place to live year-round. In fact, the city has grown so much that they broke away from the Baldwin County school system to start their own school system as of the 2019-2020 school year. (Do you have children in school? You have a variety of housing choices in a wide range of prices and lifestyles, from traditional homes to condos, both gulf-front high rises and smaller complexes away from the beach. There are even multiple golf course neighborhoods. What will determine which type of real estate would best fit your needs is going to be determined by whether this is going to be a second home or a primary residence, and the type of lifestyle you want. Those interested in waterfront property can choose from homes or condos on the Gulf of Mexico, the Intracoastal Waterway, Little Lagoon or Oyster Bay. As a result of all the water access, Gulf Shores is a fisherman's mecca.
