Located on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay and including the area known as Point Clear, Fairhope is definitely a unique community.
The City of Fairhope has worked very hard to preserve the historic downtown, with a variety of shopping, restaurants, museum and other businesses. It's a favorite place for folks who love to shop and generally explore what some might describe as an open shopping mall that covers multiple blocks. The downtown is also the center of activity for several Mardi Gras parades and the nationally reknowned juried Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival (mid-March). The holiday season marks the lighting of the trees along the downtown streets, creating a nightly wonderland from before Thanksgiving for through the arts festival.
Fairhope has also become known as an artists colony with the variety of local artists who offer their works for sale in several of the downtown shops. The First Friday Art Walk offers a monthly opportunity to explore downtown in the early evening, with local artists being the focus. Learn about how the Eastern Shore Art Center is an advocate for current and aspiring artists in and around Fairhope.
Bayfront Park is also a great community amenity. It offers the city fishing pier with a restaurant and marina, walking paths on high bluffs and along the bay, and space for picnics and swimming in the bay. The Baldwin Pops performs overlooking the bay from the bluff on July 4th, performing patriotic tunes, including during fireworks.
Wanting to attend college close to home? The Fairhope Campus of Coastal Alabama Community College is at the edge of downtown. It also serves as host in early October for the Alabama Coastal BirdFest Expo.
But it's not all about downtown and the bay. Fairhope also has an expansive agricultural community, so plan on taking drives along the "out of town" roads to see what's growing and grazing, or buy a farm of your own.
Are you a dedicated golfer? Fairhope has several golf courses to choose from: Rock Creek, Quail Creek Golf Course and The Lakewood Club.
